Mason Greenwood nears Jamaica international switch as Marseille forward and ex-England star granted citizenship and new passport

Mason Greenwood is set to make his return to international football after being granted citizenship and a new passport by Jamaica.

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    Greenwood made just the one appearance for England before he was exiled by Manchester United in 2023 and has since been working on a switch of allegiance that would allow him to make his return on the international stage.

    Greenwood being granted citizenship by Jamaica means he is in line to be selected for his country for the first time in five years. Per , the Marseille man has also been issued a new passport to fully complete his switch.

    Greenwood's recruitment is part of a drive from Jamaica and head coach Steve McClaren to bring in UK-born players with heritage linked to the Caribbean country. Since charges of attempted rape against him were dropped, the 23-year-old has been firing under Roberto De Zerbi at Marseille and has also been linked with a switch to Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr.
